Today,  Fallon, Bobby, and I strolled around the beautiful, but tiny, fishing village of Holm.  We ate in a cute little restaurant that served fresh fish and some of the best fried potatoes I've ever eaten (drenched in butter, which didn't hurt anything).  :)  The picture to the right (I hope that's where it is!) is of the front of the little restaurant.

Below are Fallon and Bobby discussing how happy they were that the very nice waitress brought us menus in English.  :)

No one in my family will believe I actually ate fried Trout with the head still attached.  Bobby said it stared at him the entire meal.  lol   We also had a lovely ice cream with chocolate dessert.

After lunch, we took a walk through the cobblestone streets of the village.  The first stop was the entrance to the village church cemetary.

I caught Bobby sitting on one of the many benches situated around the village.  Here's another view of entrance to the Holm Church that is located in the village cemetary.

September 10, 2016

Today Bobby cooked a homemade American/English meal for us - his own version of shepard's pie, I think.  Quite tasty and our only meal of the day.

Time to catch up on a few more of the photos I have taken around Schleswig in the past couple of days, some from the city and a couple from our walk through the forest yesterday. Beautiful buildings, and the yellow one is directly across from The Happy Rancho restaurant, where we will go to dinner tomorrow night.

Tomorrow for lunch, we are going to the tiny fishing village of Holm, and we plan to walk around the quaint little town.  More pictures from there, I'm sure.

Sept 8, 2016

Last night, Maik and Fallon took us to eat at a wonderful place outside of Schleswig.  We had all you can eat schnitzel, potatoes, and salad.  Great meal, and we were able to dine outside on the terrace in the cool evening air.  I will have to ask them what the name of the place was, but I know it is famous for it's schnitzel, and the meat and other meal ingredients are fresh from the local farm owned by the owners of the restaurant.

Today, Bobby and I cooked brunch for us and Fallon (Maik was working at the airbase), then Fallon had to groom a cute little doggie while I worked more on the Italy schedule portion of our trip and Bobby hung out and recovered more from jet lag.  It was a busy day for Fallon, as today was also her evening to tutor local German students at the nearby community college, so it was an easy day for Bobby and me.

If you want to see the view from our suite at the top of the Peschel home, here's a peek.  :)

And just across the street, there's a cute little electric car charging in the yard.

Tomorrow, Fallon has several dogs to groom, but this weekend, we plan to venture out a bit and get some pictures of the harbor and other pretty nearby places.

Sept 6, 2016

Today, after our grueling journey to Germany (more details on that later), Bobby slept pretty much all day, and Fallon and I drove around Schleswig to see an overview of a few sites before getting groceries for the week.

Schleswig is full of lovely houses and just about everywhere you turn, there is some body of water.  Fallon and I drove into the parking lot of the Schloss Gottorf (Gottorf Castle) where it appears that the Castle is getting a bit of a face lift.

Built by famous Swedish architect Nicodemic Tessin the Younger (1697-1703)  this castle and surrounding estate have quite a history.  The estate itself dates back to 1161.  For more interesting facts about Schloss Gottorf (and more pictures), visit this link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottorf_Castle.

Schlewig, itself, has very old roots. Originally a Viking settlement, its population originated in 804.  Since then it has belonged to both the Danish and the Germans from time to time, and now is firmly a part of northern Germany, located between the Baltic Ocean and the North Sea.  It has a beautiful harbor (more about that later) and one of my favorite sites in Schleswig is the beautiful, towering Schleswig Cathedral, which houses the tomb of Danish King Frederick 1 of Denmark.

What better place to start a new endeavor than the country of my birth - the beautiful Germany.  This IS  new endeavor as I have never attempted a blog before, so learning as I go.

I do hope to visually and textually take you along with me as I travel around the world, photographing primarily Arabian horses and capturing other inspiringly beautiful places around the globe.

We'll see how it goes!

Church in Schleswig, Germany

In the next few weeks, my daughter, Fallon, my brother Bobby, and I will be traveling all over Europe.  Most of what I will be posting will be from cell phone snaps, but I will be using the big camera (1DX and 70-200mm f/2.8L lens) when we go to Aachen, Germany, for the All Nations Cup Horse Show in late September.  Can hardly wait!
